Deciding whether to repair or replace your dock is not an easy decision. After several years of use, it is to be expected that you would have to replace your boat dock at some point. You want to be sure that your dock is fit for use to ensure your safety when you are using it. If you aren't sure if it's time to replace your dock, here are some signs you will want to look out for if your dock needs to be replaced.
Rotting Wood
It is normal for wooden docks to rot out eventually, but if there is rotting wood in multiple areas, it might be time to replace your boat dock. Sometimes you'd be able to replace those rotting boards and fix it for a matter of time, but sine wooden docks are prone to rotting, it's likely you will have to replace it eventually.
Rusted Spots
If your boat dock is made of metal parts, rust can begin to corrode your dock. Eventually, those rusted spots can lead to a lot more damage to your dock. That being said, if your dock is rusting, it is probably time to replace it.
Bad Float Tanks
Occasionally, float tanks can go bad and you can just replace the single float tank itself, but if your boat dock is already pretty old and there are several bad float tanks it may be time to replace your dock.
Bad Dock Connections
From cables to ramps, make sure all of these items are in good condition. If they are not, you can probably replace the singular item, but if your dock is older than 15 years, it may just be time to replace the entire dock.
Foundation Damage
If there are any cracks to the foundation of your dock underwater, this is a sign that it needs immediate replacing.
Dock Posts Cannot be Planted
If you have a stationary dock, and your posts are not able to stay in the ground, it is probably because they are beginning to erode and the dock is ready to be replaced.
If you notice any of these signs, it is probably time to contact your local dock expert and see what your options are for a new dock!
