Want to Travel? Here's Where to Take Your Boat to Enjoy Lake Recreation in Nebraska!

Pack up the boat, the kids and the coolers and get away for a weekend and enjoy all the water recreation Nebraska has to offer! We've compiled a list of lakes and rivers in the Nebraska area that would be worth a weekend trip in your boat.

Lake McConaughy

White sand beaches and clear see-thru water - it's like you're on the cost of Florida, but you're in Nebraska! Lake McConaughy is located 9 miles North of Ogallala, is 30,500 surface acres and has 100 miles of shoreline - making it the biggest reservoir in Nebraska! You can boat on the 30,500 acres the lake has to offer, camp directly on the sand with the beautiful lake view, get some good relaxation in, and even spend a day swimming in the clear beautiful lake.


Two Rivers is located in Waterloo, NE and has camping, trails, fishing, hunting, lodging, playgrounds, and boating on lake #5. There is even a unique park of 10 Union Pacific cabooses that have been refurbished into cabins that sleep six.

Lake Ericson

Located in the Sandhills in Ericson, NE, Lake Ericson is a beautiful lake to visit with the family. You'll find scenic trails, relaxing sunsets, great bird watching, waterfowl hunting, boating and swimming.


Medicine Creek is located in Southwest, NE and is 1,768 acres. At Medicine Creek, you can go camping, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and boating are very popular at this lake. There is also a great disc golf course on the lake for some extra activity.


Coming in at Nebraska's second largest lake reservoir, Lewis and Clark is on the northeast boarder of Nebraska right by South Dakota. The lake gets its name from the Lewis and Clark expedition, which camped near the Louisiana Purchase.


Located in Louisville, off of Highway 50, Louisville State Recreation Area is a lake of 192 acres and has a sand bottom. There is certainly fun for the whole family out here - camping, swimming, fishing, non-power boating, and a brand new floating playground. You are also able to rent paddle boards, water bikes, and kayaks. You are also close to the Platte River, Mahoney State Park and Schramm park for some nearby extra fun.

Smith Falls State Park

Featuring a beautiful waterfall, Smith Falls State Park is 250 acres along the Niobrara. You can hike, camp, boat (kayak and canoe), fish, and have a picnic. Smith Falls is also an area with great biological significance as you are still able to find ice age species in this area.

Branches Oak Lake

Located in Raymond, NE, Branched Oak features 1,800 acres of water for some great boating. Branched Oak also has two swimming beaches, great campsites, hiking trails, a marina for fuel, snacks, boat rental, and a bar and grill.
